Jamie Walton and his 2.7 million dollar cello

Jamie Walton's considered one of the great cellists currently playing in the world today.

His cello is a 1712 Guarneri valued at around 2.7 million dollars. He fell in love with the instrument and through sweat and persistence managed to round up enough financing to pay for it. Think horse racing syndicates and you won't be far off.

And The Winner Is ...

We've been running a competition where you had to write in and answer the question: "If you were an American, what kind of American would you be?"

Chris H has won and he takes home a copy of American Rust for his efforts. Here's what he sent in:

30 Aug 1986, Queens NY.

I was born in the projects with a rag on my back,
My very first thought was "How to boost my stack?".
So I cooked up a plot to get me above all the rats,
First thing I needed was a couple of gats.
Mams said go to school but that place is like prison,
What they teach gonna try give me tunnel vision.
I need to see clear to get me out of here,
Aint listening to any fool sayin "Boy, take a chair!".

Picked up a couple pistols
Then I let my feet stroll
Down to the corner, where all the crooks go.
Soon enough I was rollin in piles of cash,
Moving street currency, pills, powder and hash.
Life was looking up, I could eat everyday,
Just had to hold my block, Show that I dont play.
But I couldnt see that my days were numbered,
Some kids had a plan to steal my thunder.
Drive-By attack, there I lay in the street,
Looking at the sky, Tryna move my feet.
Then there was a moment, the light shone bright,
I had a vision that my lifes not right.
Leading peeps astray, for a days pay,
So I stood up and shouted what I had to say.

People started to listen, All around the world,
Now the only shootin I do, is off on tour.
Bringing concious lyrics, spreading the love,
Cuss theres more to life than being a street thug.
People on the right through ur hands in the air,
Wave em round like you cant get a beer.
Lemme hear you scream "Bartender over here!"
See you after the show, Ill be chilling with Claire... Sandra, Tina, Sophi......etc.......

Nice work Chris.

This is my last Sunday Breakfast for a while as I'll be heading overseas. I'll be back in August but in the meantime the marvelous James Burnett will be taking over the show. He's got some good stuff lined up for you.

Ka Kite.
