Seeded Ep 13 Dudley Benson
MP3, 36m08s, 33.1MB, first broadcast 24 July 2010
Dudley Benson is a composer, vocalist and performer without peer in New Zealand, and his defiantly original approach to pop music seems informed by centuries of music, art, and oral histories.
But Dudley is not mired down by any kind of tradition, and his works are as much about the present and the future as they are about past which shapes them.
On the release of his remarkable debut album The Awakening in 2008, he was described as an “indie chamber-pop choirboy”; though he has since shown himself to be more of an “indie chamber-pop renaissance man”: publishing a book, performing a commissioned piece for the Auckland Art Gallery inspired by Rita Angus; and working on new music that may see prior descriptions of him entirely revised.
Dudley presents six songs that have suggested directions for his music since he began work on The Awakening in 2008.
