Marianne Shultz is a post graduate candidate in the Department of History.
Marianne was a professional dancer and dance teacher in the USA, UK and New Zealand. She has taught and performed throughout New Zealand and has presented papers on dance research internationally for AUSdance, CORD (Congress on Research in Dance) and SDHS (Society of Dance History Scholars).
Her present Ph D research covers “Performing New Zealand: Maori and European song and dance on stage 1860-1940”
Her recently completed MLitt thesis was entitled: "From the haka to Dancing with the Stars: New Zealand Men Dancing 1905-2005". A study of 20th century NZ masculinity through the lens of dance done by men: haka, ballet and contemporary dance.
