Before he co-founded the successful fashion label and store World, Francis Hooper spent the 1980s playing music: firstly on The Disco Show at Auckland’s radio b, and as a club DJ both in Auckland and Hong Kong – in the days before “club DJ” was recognised as a sensible vocation..
It was when Francis found himself in London in the mid-1980s that his interest in fun and outrageous fashion led him into the fashion house revival that was then taking place, and he underwent an ‘accidental apprenticeship’ with certain names that would be dominating the pages of Vogue in years to come.
Francis thinks that music and fashion are inseparable, and his favourite aspects of both are the elements of camp, fun, and energy which can be found easily if approached in the right way…
